2006-1386
2010
Named 2006.1386, a nod to the law passed by the French government to ban smoking in public places, this public ashtray asserts itself, through its form and aesthetic sense, like other endangered species. While questioning the perpetual relation of man to object, this object, no longer ethically neutral, bears the symbols and archetypal stigmata of standardization. Without questioning its architectural grammar, it stands out as the outdoor partner of a new way of regulated life. Without provocation, but still glowing at its tip, it asserts, in both its form and function, the firm presence of an object in danger of extinction. YS
